It operates globally with 29 national member organizations in over 100 countries. With more than a century of experience, the organization advocates for children's rights and welfare, evolving from its initial focus on humanitarian aid to a broader mission. The organization provides a range of services, including health and survival initiatives, quality education programs, child protection during crises, community development projects, and rapid humanitarian response. Save the Children reaches tens of millions of children each year and has significantly contributed to reducing child mortality rates. With a strategic ambition for 2030, the organization aims to ensure that all children survive, learn, and are protected from violence. It primarily relies on private charitable contributions and employs innovative fundraising methods, such as child sponsorship programs.
UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, is a permanent agency of the United Nations established in 1946. Initially created to provide relief to children and mothers affected by World War II, UNICEF has since expanded its mission to focus on long-term child welfare, health, nutrition, education, and development worldwide. Headquartered in New York City, UNICEF operates in 192 countries and territories, supported by voluntary contributions from governments and private sectors. UNICEF's core mission is to improve the health, nutrition, education, and rights of children, particularly those in disadvantaged situations. The organization administers vaccines, treats malnutrition, and provides education to millions of children each year. It also focuses on water, sanitation, hygiene, and protection services, responding rapidly to emergencies and collaborating with NGOs and UN partners. Through its various programs, UNICEF aims to ensure that every child is healthy, educated, protected, and respected.
The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is an independent humanitarian NGO based in Norway, established in 1946 to assist refugees in post-World War II Europe. Over the years, it has evolved into a global organization providing emergency assistance, protection, and durable solutions to refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in more than 40 countries affected by conflicts, disasters, and climate change. NRC specializes in six key areas: livelihoods and food security, education, shelter and settlements, information and legal assistance, protection from violence, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). The organization employs around 15,000-16,000 staff, primarily local hires, and assists approximately 9-10 million people annually. NRC collaborates with various partners, including UN agencies and local actors, to address the needs of vulnerable populations and advocate for their rights. It also maintains the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) in Geneva and operates NORCAP, a roster of experts supporting humanitarian responses in crises.
